La prima&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;elettrica&nbsp;viene attribuita al medico inventore americano&nbsp;<strong>Sidney I. Russell<\/strong>. Questi, nel 1912, brevett\u00f2 un dispositivo per riscaldare le lenzuola che veniva posizionato sotto il materasso. L\u2019invenzione venne perfezionata nel 1921 e adattata alla cura dei malati di tubercolosi. Avendo la necessit\u00e0 di vivere in ambienti con aria fresca, i malati potevano trovarsi nella situazione di dormire all\u2019aperto, cos\u00ec la&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;elettrica&nbsp;consentiva ai convalescenti di respirare aria fresca mantenendo il corpo al caldo. Una scena simile la si vede anche nel film di Hayao Miyazaki del 2013 \u201c<em>Si alza il vento<\/em>\u201d nel quale Nahoko, la moglie del protagonista Jiro Horikoshi lotta contro la tubercolosi in un sanatorio in una localit\u00e0 montana, dormendo su un lettino all\u2019aperto e sotto una&nbsp;coperta, in quel caso di tipo tradizionale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Ritornando al dottor Russell il suo progetto venne migliorato qualche anno dopo da&nbsp;<strong>George C. Crowley<\/strong>, un ingegnere laureato all\u2019Universit\u00e0 di Notre Dame e arruolato in Marina dove, durante la Seconda guerra mondiale, venne assegnato alla&nbsp;<strong>General Electric Company<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Nel 1936 Crowley invent\u00f2 la prima&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;elettrica&nbsp;dotata del controllo di un termostato che accendeva e spegneva la&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;in funzione della temperatura ambiente. Il termostato poteva operare anche come dispositivo di sicurezza, interrompendo l&#8217;alimentazione se rilevava temperature anomale nella&nbsp;coperta. Successivamente vennero prodotte&nbsp;coperte&nbsp;dotate di pi\u00f9 termostati cablati al loro interno.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"355\" height=\"477\" src=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Automatic-sleeping-comfort.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-14034\" style=\"height:550px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Automatic-sleeping-comfort.jpg 355w, https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/Automatic-sleeping-comfort-223x300.jpg 223w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 355px) 100vw, 355px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dalle tute riscaldate alle moderne termocoperte<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Durante la sua esperienza alla General Electric, Crowley svilupp\u00f2 una tuta da volo riscaldata elettricamente. Questo prodotto consent\u00ec ai piloti di volare al di sopra della contraerea senza congelarsi.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Queste ricerche consentirono a Crowley di migliorare e infine di industrializzare la produzione della&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;elettrica&nbsp;automatica e termoprotetta che fu brevettata, prodotta e venduta dalla General Electric a partire dal 1946.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">La\u00a0<strong>coperta\u00a0elettrica<\/strong>, o\u00a0coperta\u00a0riscaldante, o termocoperta che dir si voglia, \u00e8 composta, nella sua essenzialit\u00e0, da un elemento riscaldante, o resistore, che si riscalda per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/2021\/11\/25\/13-protettori-termici-ed-effetto-joule\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>effetto Joule<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0e da un dispositivo di controllo della temperatura, il termostato.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Oggi questo sistema si \u00e8 ampliato e ha raggiunto applicazioni diverse. Le termocoperte si dividono prevalentemente in due tipi. Uno viene posizionato tra il lenzuolo e il materasso, e agisce da scaldaletto. Un secondo sostituisce la tradizionale&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;ed \u00e8 la&nbsp;coperta&nbsp;elettrica&nbsp;in senso stretto. Come si accennava, per\u00f2, fin dagli anni Quaranta erano stati sviluppato dei giubbini militari termoriscaldati. Tuttora la produzione di questi indumenti \u00e8 ancora in essere.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Infine negli ultimi trent\u2019anni ha preso piede una nuova applicazione delle termocoperte che vengono impiegate anche come&nbsp;<strong>scaldapneumatici<\/strong>&nbsp;per moto, ovviamente in un\u2019esecuzione sviluppata appositamente per questo impiego.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Il sistema per\u00f2 \u00e8 sempre lo stesso indipendentemente dall\u2019utilizzo finale che ne viene fatto. L\u2019elemento riscaldante viene controllato o limitato da un termostato.
