Questa piccola terra&nbsp;del&nbsp;Nord&nbsp;del&nbsp;Regno Unito non \u00e8 stata solo la terra natia di&nbsp;<em>Rod Stewart<\/em>&nbsp;(1945),&nbsp;<em>Sean Connery<\/em>&nbsp;(1930 \u2013 2020),&nbsp;<em>Joe Jordan<\/em>&nbsp;(1951) e&nbsp;<em>Gordon Ramsay<\/em>&nbsp;(1966), ma anche di&nbsp;<strong>Andrew Ure<\/strong>, che nacque a Glasgow nel 1778 e mor\u00ec a Londra nel 1857. Fu inoltre molto influenzato dagli esperimenti che fece sulle rane il professore di anatomia  bolognese Luigi Galvani (1737-1798) nel 1780, e successivamente il nipote di questo, Giovanni Aldini (1762-1834). In numerose occasioni Aldini si esib\u00ec in pubblico mostrando gli effetti che gli impulsi elettrici potevano avere sui corpi di animali e tavolta anche sui cadaveri umani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Il 4 Novembre 1818, Andrew Ure esegu\u00ec un esperimento&nbsp;sul&nbsp;cadavere di un minatore di 35 anni, Matthew Clydesdale, condannato per assassinio e giustiziato per impiccagione poche ore prima. L\u2019esperimento ebbe luogo alla presenza di un folto pubblico composto da studenti, curiosi, anatomisti e medici dell&#8217;Universit\u00e0 di Glasgow. I risultati vennero successivamente raccolti in una relazione molto dettagliata e presentata alla Glasgow Literary Society. Ure descrive in modo sensazionale e con dovizia di particolari&nbsp;le&nbsp;reazioni&nbsp;del&nbsp;corpo inanime a seguito degli impulsi elettrici, ma l\u2019esperimento non ebbe il successo desiderato, sia perch\u00e9 non riport\u00f2 in vita Matthew Clydesdale, sia perch\u00e9 terrorizz\u00f2 buona parte dei presenti.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"780\" height=\"520\" src=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Andrew-Ure.jpg\" alt=\"origini\" class=\"wp-image-13487\" style=\"width:585px;height:390px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Andrew-Ure.jpg 780w, https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Andrew-Ure-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/Andrew-Ure-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 780px) 100vw, 780px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Ure non era l\u2019unico scienziato ad eseguire questo genere di esperimenti, al contrario erano molti che tra la fine&nbsp;del&nbsp;XVIII e l\u2019inizio&nbsp;del&nbsp;XIX secolo condussero esperimenti con il galvanismo, per la stimolazione dei muscoli a seguito degli impulsi di corrente elettrica. Gli effetti erano sicuramente incredibili e tali da attirare l\u2019interesse di scienziati e artisti, fino ad ispirare una giovane&nbsp;<em>Mary Shelley<\/em>&nbsp;(1797 &#8211; 1851), che proprio nel 1818 pubblic\u00f2 il suo capolavoro \u201c<em>Frankenstein: o, Il moderno Prometeo<\/em>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Questo esperimento confer\u00ec molta fama a Ure ma col tempo egli rinunci\u00f2 a questo genere di lavori. Si trasfer\u00ec a Londra e viaggi\u00f2 per l\u2019Inghilterra, il Belgio e la Francia, visitando e studiando la produzione in numerose fabbriche, prevalentemente tessili.&nbsp;Le&nbsp;sue nuove ricerche e i suoi studi si orientarono verso l\u2019industria, l\u2019automazione&nbsp;della&nbsp;produzione (in modo particolare delle industrie tessili), la difesa&nbsp;del&nbsp;lavoro nelle fabbriche e il miglioramento delle condizioni dei lavoratori. Ed \u00e8 in questo frangente che entriamo nel vivo di ci\u00f2 per cui Andrew Ure \u00e8 importante per tutti noi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">L&#8217;invenzione del &#8220;thermostat&#8221;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Basandosi&nbsp;sul&nbsp;principio&nbsp;del&nbsp;diverso coefficiente di dilatazione dei metalli, nel 1830, ide\u00f2 un sistema di accorpamento di barre metalliche che inserite, ad esempio, all\u2019interno di un camino si sarebbero piegate, lasciando entrare aria fredda nella stanza, e di conseguenza regolandone la temperatura. Questo dispositivo venne definito dallo stesso Ure \u201cthermostat\u201d (<em>si veda Andrew Ure, On the&nbsp;Thermostat&nbsp;or Heat Governor,&nbsp;Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London, 1831<\/em>). Questo tipo di movimento poteva essere applicato in vari modi. Ad esempio per regolare l&#8217;apertura delle serrande, facendo entrare aria fredda o acqua fredda. Se faceva freddo, dovevi semplicemente aggiungere pi\u00f9 carbone o legna al fuoco&nbsp;della&nbsp;tua casa o&nbsp;del&nbsp;tuo luogo di lavoro. Il&nbsp;termostato&nbsp;bimetallico era un nuovo modo di misurare la temperatura in una stanza. I materiali che costituivano&nbsp;le&nbsp;barre bimetalliche si piegavano al variare&nbsp;della&nbsp;temperatura, indicando che il livello di calore doveva essere regolato. Se ricordate \u00e8 esattamente quello di cui abbiamo parlato in&nbsp;\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/rdcomponents.com\/site\/2021\/09\/13\/2-che-cosa-provoca-lapertura-e-la-chiusura-dei-contatti-in-un-dispositivo-bimetallico\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Che cosa provoca l&#8217;apertura e o la chiusura dei contatti in un dispositivo bimetallico?<\/a>&#8220;.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Applicare il principio&nbsp;della&nbsp;dilatazione dei metalli al controllo&nbsp;della&nbsp;temperatura. \u00c8 questo che per primo ha fatto Andrew Ure, ed \u00e8 questo il motivo per cui quest\u2019uomo \u00e8 entrato nelle nostre vite. E a maggior ragione nelle vite di chi lavora nel mondo dei&nbsp;termostati.
