Si tratta di un principio applicato al controllo della temperatura per la prima volta nel 1830, ma questo lo rivedremo pi\u00f9 avanti. Per ora voglio concentrarmi sul principio che aziona questi componenti. Basandosi sul diverso coefficiente di dilatazione dei metalli, si crea una lamina composta da due strati di due diversi metalli (Es. Conseguentemente \u00e8 possibile tarare il bimetallo affinch\u00e9 si pieghi alla temperatura richiesta, determinando in questo modo la soglia d&#8217;intervento. Nel momento in cui la temperatura inizia a diminuire, anche il bimetallo modifica la sua curvatura, fino al ritorno alla posizione iniziale, che nel nostro caso significa chiusura del contatto e ripristino del funzionamento del dispositivo. Bisogna per\u00f2 considerare che la temperatura viene rilevata nel punto in cui si trova la lamina bimetallica, e che di conseguenza il posizionamento del componente influisce sui tempi di reazione, cos\u00ec come la costruzione e l&#8217;esecuzione del dispositivo.
